Lemon Tahini Dressing

This is one of my favorite dressing/dips I use. I make a big batch every week and dip steamed or sauteed veggies in it, use it as a salad dressing or for crudites. Feel free to make it your own.   ¾ cup of runny tahini (we have a Tehran market near us and they...

My Bakery

Why a Bakery?

A Sweet Beginning

Growing up, my mom did not enjoy cooking or baking. Ironically, she was actually a wonderful cook, but baking was never her thing.

One afternoon, my cousin and her children were coming to visit, so my mom decided to make Toll House chocolate chip cookies. I remember watching her carefully measure the ingredients and mix the dough. I was so excited because homemade cookies were such a rare treat in our house.

As she baked, I remember her saying how much work it was and that she knew she would never make them again.

“Grandma Feeney”

My Grandmother’s Legacy

My grandmother, my mom’s mother, was the complete opposite.

Known throughout her neighborhood as an incredible baker, “Grandma Feeney” or “Ma Feeney,” as everyone called her, had a gift for creating beautiful baked goods that brought people together.

She passed away when I was only two years old. I have a treasured photograph of myself sitting on her lap shortly before she died. Even though I knew her for such a short time, I have always felt deeply connected to her. I think of her often, talk to her regularly, and carry her spirit with me.

In many ways, I take after her. I absolutely love to bake.

Healing Through Baking

During my struggle with an eating disorder, cookies became either my greatest ally or my greatest enemy.

As I began to heal, baking transformed into something much more than a hobby. It became a balm for my soul. That may sound dramatic, but cookies became one of the clearest signs that my healing was real. They represented freedom, nourishment, and joy.

Creating Better Treats for My Family

When my children were born, I wanted them to experience delicious baked goods made with ingredients I could trust.

I wanted treats free from hybridized or genetically modified flour, seed oils, highly processed chocolate, and unnecessary additives. I spent countless hours experimenting, testing recipes, and throwing away batches that didn’t meet my standards.

“Eventually, I created recipes that I felt proud to share with my family—and now with yours.”

A Celebration of Sweetness

Here’s something I learned that touched my heart: Mother’s milk is naturally sweet because sweetness encourages a baby to keep coming back for nourishment. That realization reminded me that sweetness has a purpose. We are here to experience sweetness—not only in the foods we enjoy, but in the way we choose to live, love, connect, and care for one another. Life is filled with challenges, but it is also filled with beautiful moments worth savoring.
